Is it too soon for a Chernobyl movie?
When CHERNOBYL DIARIES is released, Friends of Chernobyl Centers U.S. will not be in attendance.. The group has blasted the film over the portrayal..
In the movie, six tourists enter the nuclear town to discover horrific zombies and nuclear-drenched people.. Scares ensue. Problem is, Chernobyl is a real life tragedy. A meltdown in 1986 was one of the biggest nuclear disasters in history .. in real life, thousands of people have died and 400,000 had to leave when the incident took place..
The furor over the film began with a report on TMZ with comments from the group that is angry over the movie .. but today, a new report on TMZ gets the producer’s side of the story: Oren Peli said the film was done with respect for the ‘86 disaster and its victims..
Peli told TMZ: “As for the claim that our film exploits anyone — we could not disagree more vigorously. First of all, the criticism and accusations are coming from a group that has not seen the film, whereas conversely the praise for it is coming from those who have indeed seen it” .. More here..
Perhaps Peli will strike gold and FUKUSHIMA DIARIES will be next?
So what are your thoughts, all?

DARK SHADOWS is being released this week. No way it will outdo what AVENGERS did last weekend.. and maybe it should not. I like Tim Burton, or at least liked him. His films are creative.. interesting. The whole Johnny Depp/Burton constant connection is nice in a way, but also.. unsettling. I don’t necessarily think that every film Burton makes needs to have Depp in the main role.
Even more, the true question I have about this is whether DARK SHADOWS was meant to be a dark comedy or more of a true horror. A lot of good horror and creative scares could have been done. Instead, as Burton would predictably do, he turned it seemingly into a 21st century BEETLEJUICE. Which in itself isn’t bad.. but is it what should be?
I am interested in reactions of you all care to share any. Did you see the film, and what did you think?

The heat is on..
Welcome to the summer!
Box office blasts ready.. First up.. AVENGERS..
Already the film has scored the highest midnight opening of all time.. Record setting weekend coming? The full moon will be bright over crowds heading to see the first box smash of summer ‘12.. Feeling like a good year for movies? Maybe.. Insiders predict $172 mil for AVENGERS is possible.
The film opening this weekend in 4,349 theaters strong..
Next week the box office mania continues with DARK SHADOWS opening in 3,700 theaters.. Can Johnny Depp and Tim Burton NOT freak out America enough to create a decently sized opening weekend? Time will tell.So who is going to AVENGERS this weekend?

I’m an enormous BATMAN fan.. even more of a fan of the Nolan films than any other. The latest trailer was released…
All I can say is this: If a movie trailer can raise the hairs on my arms and cause my eyes to swell with tears, I cannot even imagine what the whole movie will do.
Yes I’m not ashamed to admit it. DARK KNIGHT RISES may make me, a 31-year-old grown man, weep.

And one more point on Abraham Lincoln as a vampire hunter: I think this may be one of the best movies ever. Can’t wait to see it. Wondering what the thoughts of the masses are on honest Abe slicing and dicing into his way to American horror hero?

30 years on air for David Letterman. He is an institution of comedy..
I’d be remiss if I didn’t say how important he has been in my life. I remember vaguely watching him as a kid (age 3 and 4 and maybe 5) .. I remember vividly watching him as a grade school kid and high schooler.. I repeated his jokes the next day because I knew no other kids stayed up that late …
I don’t watch much now, though. Can’t say the show is nearly as imaginative as it once was.. or cutting edge. Or new and fresh. But 30 years on air in some capacity is meaningful and amazing. He is a legend of our time just as Carson was for the previous…
But I leave you tonight with this question.. did David Letterman perfect late night sarcasm or, by being so good at it, destroy the ability for anyone else to be sarcastic?

While caring for a sick child with my wife last night.. I missed the Golden Globes
I may not have missed much, though, besides penis jokes.
Guess I didn’t miss much.

A note to the late nighters and night owls out there..
The sounds of silence are over.. John B. Wells takes over Saturday night duties on Coast to Coast AM .. Starting now.
His voice now prevailing across the land, around the world.. and beyond.
Hope it’s good.
Enjoy.
If you dare.

You may have seen the show.. you may have been revolted by it, like me.. you maybe still watch anyway.. but the most interesting of charges are now coming about.. Are Toddlers and Tiaras mothers DOPING their daughters? Girls’ drinks spiked with ‘pageant crack and go-go juice’ in most shocking scenes yet..

TIME magazine mocks horror film THE DEVIL INSIDE
I didn’t see it.. maybe won’t see it until it’s on video, but it continues the long pattern of mainstream media mocking horror flicks—even though THE DEVIL INSIDE may be the biggest release of the weekend.
I have long believed and professed this: Horror movies and wrestling emulate popular culture. What is going on in real life goes on in horror flicks and fake sports. So be it…
The DEVIL INSIDE? For the reason mentioned here it’s worth it.. Go see it. Prove TIME mag wrong—the same folks that chose Ben Bernanke as their savior (person) of the year..

That’s why the lady is a tramp?
Some interesting news now as housekeepers speak about Lady Gaga’s stay at a lavish London hotel last summer. Apparently a large red pool was discovered in the bathtub — was her blood after a satanic ritual or a weird costume stage prop?
The edge of glory indeed.
We know Lady Gaga is strange.. but could it be? Some weird bloody occult Odyssey in a hotel room? Would she be so brash? ..a bathtub full of blood?
No rubber ducky.. No fun. Instead just blood lust.
Or just crazy housekeepers talking to the media.
We may never know. Until the tell-all autobiography or biography some day in the near future…..

The DARK KNIGHT RISES.. and falls.
As this report says, audiences cheer the trailer.. and become silent at the end.

I don’t remember making fun of you when you had sex with all your interns! I didn’t do that. I didn’t make fun of your rampant, throbbing heterosexuality, did I Dave?
