Random thoughts .. a week before the Christmas open hunting season begins
The world is filled with craziness.. Peaceful demonstrators being pepper sprayed by the order.. for the order.. but what order? The new world order or an old world order that never went away? Do tell me, what productive result will free discussion being trampled down have on this society? Or is it too late to ask. I just don’t know but sure wish someone else did..The order of chaos is in full swing in Egypt, too.. Muburak is long gone but the military rule that replaced him isn’t. And people want it to be.. The “Arab Spring” of 2011 will be the Arab winter of ‘12.. Cold shoulders of military leaders replace the warm sunshine of hope in spring. Twas always thus and always thus shall be.Joe Paterno is in the news.. In his 80s, in a scandal, and now in the hospital with lung cancer. Sandusky touched someone—whether in his book or in Penn State’s shower.. that cannot be denied. And now the scandal of child sex crimes moves north to Syracuse, where a basketball coach is accused of Sandusky-like behavior for years. What door are we opening? Pandora’s Box is an over-used saying. And hell, it’s been opened too many times now anyway.. But sports fans will remind me that Penn State beat the Buckeyes on Saturday. So I guess all is well. This week an alleged assassin was caught after shots were fired at the White House. But a newspaper found Obama’s 120+ page security plan in a gutter. Now I ask, what threat is bigger? And why no questions as to how the security detail got treated like trash in a polluted street? We are nearing another JFK assassination anniversary. Shows and stories will tell us it’s solved. Others will ‘prove’ conspiracy. Almost 50 years and the debate continues…. Amazing how history is an ever-evolving story, isn’t it?The sidewalk is growing cold. It’s getting to be winter.Be warm.Happy Sunday.

11/11/11: Egypt closes down the pyramid just in time
The decision came “after much pressure” from Egyptian Internet users that strange rituals were going to be held “within the walls of the pyramid on November 11, 2011,” Atef Abu Zahab, head of the Department of Pharaonic Archaeology, told AFP.

The world is on fire: my thoughts on a violent weekend
The world looked at a man setting himself on fire in Tunisia.. They watched protesters storm Egypt and escort Hosni Mubarak out of office.. they are watching intense rage on the streets of Bahrain, as the government tries to crack down on protesters.. Libya, like others, has cut off the internet.. Saudi Arabia is on edge.. Iran is watching and quickly trying to put out small fires of protest throughout the nation.
And even the United States is increasingly on edge, as protesters storm Madison Wisconsin in protest of Governor Walker, who is intent on diminishing the amount of benefits that public employees in his state have.
But now, the intensity of the world on edge is perhaps most exemplified by China, where government forces are dispersing protesters in Shanghai.. According to reports, police began to quickly filter crowds of protesters that popped up in the city..
We have seen a crackdown before in Tiananmen Square. The world watched tanks storm peaceful Chinese protesters.. And after that, not much more freedom ever flourished.
Most recently, China received the scorn of the world (but only scorn and that’s about it) after it began a systematic campaign of the arrest of bloggers and immediate put-down of any free speech that violated what state media wanted the Chinese to hear..
But it appears, in a sense, that this burst of newfound freedom of expression thanks to Facebooking Tweets and Tumblering blogs.
However, China is on guard. An online call for a “Jasmine Revolution” has been watched by Chinese officials, who are not about to let freedom fighters prevail against totalitarian aims of the current regime.
While no major protest occurred (And not that we know since state media controls mostly everything in China), it’s amazing how this new energy is racing around the world. Is it people power? Is it all real?
Are we watching a revolution..? Or is it simply opening shots in a soon-to-occur war?
Perhaps it’s worth nothing: Photos of this weekend’s events in China certainly illustrate that it was more than just a few who showed for the Jasmine callout..
Where it goes from here? We’ll have to stay tuned to official government state media for that, I suppose.Posted on February 20, 2011 with 1 note ()

The New York POST encapsulates the dramatic conversion of power from Mubarak to the ‘no one yet’ in a cover of Hosni in a mummy wrap. Good pun. Got to love the New York POST..

Your head may hurt trying to understand the situation in Egypt
Mine does. But as the best I can describe, this is what occurred today:
News from Egypt was instantly interesting today when rumors surfaced that Hosni Mubarak would resign as President.. confimed later by Leon Panetta of the CIA.. Later in the day, Mubarak did NOT resign but instead, the Vice President of Egypt told protesters to go home.. Nothing to see here. Keep moving. Until Friday, when protesters in Egypt plan a large demonstration on Hosni’s palace. The ball is in the military’s court now..
Now.. why? Well that’s anyone’s guess. -
