What ever happened to the great American Job?

Maybe it never existed..

Nonetheless, I did read this article from FAST COMPANY with great interest all about how you should plan to switch jobs every three years for the rest of your life..

Why?

There are a lot of arguments for jumping ship every few years. The economy isn’t what it used to be—and never will be again. Workers who stay with a company longer than two years are said to get paid 50% less, and job hoppers are believed to have a higher learning curve, be higher performers, and even to be more loyal, because they care about making a good impression in the short amount of time they know they’ll stay with each employer.

The logic in principle may be sound. It may also be factual that the longer you stay put the more you’ll stay used.

The problem I foresee with this is that the job market yet does not accept it. People look at resumes for stability.. I think fair or unfair, recruiters may see a job hopper as an albatross for a company.

As I have predicted before, the REAL future of jobs is that there will be none. Instead, the wage floor will be seriously discussed in the hallowed halls on Congress within the next 20 years, or social stresses will cause isolated and then widespread panic and societal collapse.
